External Cladding Restoration
The Brief
The external cladding at Glenmorangie had been visibly affected by years of environmental exposure. Watershed staining, algae growth, and atmospheric pollution had built up across the front, side, and rear elevations, leaving the façade looking tired and inconsistent. StoneClean was appointed to restore the cladding to a clean, uniform finish-without causing any damage to the underlying substrate.
Our Approach
With a substrate of this type, standard pressure washing simply wasn’t an option. Aggressive cleaning methods risk surface erosion, coating failure, and water ingress, none of which are acceptable on a building of this profile.
Instead, we used the DOFF Integra Steam Cleaning System, a heritage-approved method that delivers superheated water at high temperature and low pressure. This allows us to lift deep-seated contamination effectively while keeping the cladding system completely intact.
The DOFF process safely removed:
•Watershed staining
•Algae and biological growth
•Atmospheric pollution deposits
•General environmental soiling
Access & Safety
Given the scale of the elevations, a cherry picker (MEWP) was used to provide safe access at height. All works were carried out under site-specific risk assessments and method statements, in full compliance with current health and safety regulations.
Result
The cladding was restored to a clean, consistent finish across all elevations significantly improving the building’s external appearance while fully preserving the integrity of the cladding system.
